Hyderabad's climate is its own design brief. Long, dry summers push afternoon temperatures past 40°C, the monsoon brings sticky humidity, and winters stay mild. A curtain that looks gorgeous in a Pinterest photo can still bake your living room or grow musty by August. After 26 years of dressing windows across the city, here is what genuinely works in Gachibowli, Manikonda, Kondapur and HITEC City apartments.
Start With Your Direction, Not Your Colour
Before you fall in love with a fabric, walk through your flat and note which way each room faces. In Hyderabad, the sun's angle decides almost everything about curtain performance.
- West-facing rooms take the harshest hit — the 3pm to 6pm sun is brutal in summer. These need the heaviest, most opaque treatment you own.
- South-facing rooms get steady light all day. They benefit from a layered setup so you can dial brightness up or down.
- East-facing bedrooms flood with early light — a problem if anyone in the house sleeps past 6:30am.
- North-facing rooms are the easiest; soft, lighter fabrics are usually enough.
High-floor apartments in towers like those at Lanco Hills or the Financial District get even more direct exposure, with almost no shade from neighbouring buildings. Plan for more, not less.
Fabrics That Survive a Hyderabad Year
The fabric is where most online curtain purchases go wrong. Thin polyester sheers fade fast under our UV load, and pure cotton can sag in monsoon humidity. The combinations we install most often:
- Polyester-cotton blends — the workhorse for Hyderabad. They hold colour, resist creasing in humidity, and drape well. Ideal for living rooms.
- Jacquard and textured weaves — heavier, with built-in light resistance and a premium feel for formal living and dining spaces.
- Triple-weave blackout fabric — for bedrooms and west-facing rooms; it blocks light and heat without a plasticky coating.
- Sheer voiles and linens — for the inner layer, giving daytime privacy while keeping the room bright and airy.
Understand GSM Before You Pay
GSM (grams per square metre) is the single most useful number when comparing curtains, and it is the one most sellers skip. It tells you how dense the fabric is.
- 150–200 GSM — light sheers and voiles. Lovely for filtered light, useless for blocking heat.
- 220–280 GSM — mid-weight drapes that handle daily living-room duty and moderate sun.
- 300 GSM and above — proper blackout and thermal weights. This is what a west-facing Hyderabad bedroom actually needs.

The Layered Look: Why Most Hyderabad Homes Land Here
If we had to recommend one approach for the typical 2BHK or 3BHK flat, it is layering — a sheer inner curtain paired with a heavier outer drape on a double track. During the day you draw the sheers for privacy and soft light; in peak afternoon heat or at night you close the outer layer for full blockout.
It is flexible, it photographs beautifully, and it suits everything from a compact Kondapur flat to a duplex in Kokapet. We cover styling combinations in detail in our piece on bedroom curtains from sheer to layered looks.

Renting vs Owning — A Quick Note
Many Gachibowli and HITEC City flats are rented. If you may move in a year or two, choose standard track sizes and eyelet headings that can be re-hemmed and rehung in a new home, rather than fixed pelmets. Good curtains are portable when they are planned that way.
Get the Measurement Right — Let Us Come to You
The most common mistake we fix is curtains ordered too short or too narrow online, which kills the drape and the blockout. Measuring for fullness, stack-back and floor clearance is genuinely easy to get wrong by eye.
That is why our free home visit exists: we bring 250+ fabric samples to your flat, measure every window properly, and quote on the spot — no obligation. As a family business running since 1998, we would rather measure twice than have you live with curtains that do not sit right. You can also browse the full range on our shop page first.
